I am not worthy that Thou shouldest come under my roof.
Here is a man who knew who Jesus was. Even though the speaker in our verse was a man of authority, he recognized in the Lord Jesus a higher authority than himself. He didn’t even think that he was worthy for Jesus to come into his house. Let us never forget who Jesus is. He is our Friend and Savior, yes. But He is also God, and we must always treat Him like that.
