"I thank God for the word 'whosoever.'
"If God had said there was mercy for Richard Baxter, I am so vile a sinner that I would have thought He meant some other Richard Baxter; but when He says, `whosoever,' I know that includes me, the worst of all Richard Baxters.”
So said the well-known servant of God as he rejoiced in the fullness of God's great salvation.
We may rejoice too that "whosoever" is a word of widest meaning. It opens the door to any who will enter in.
The first "whosoever" recorded as falling from the lips of the Lord Jesus when He was on earth is in John 3:14,1514And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:14‑15): "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
Oh, sinner! The way of blessing and eternal life is open for you. Will you not say—
"It was for me, it was for me,
The Savior died on Calvary,
Though lost and ruined, deep in sin,
God's WHOSOEVER takes me in.”
"Let the wicked forsake his
way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts: and let
him return unto the LORD,
and He will have mercy upon
him; and to our GOD, for He
will abundantly pardon.”
