Richard Baxter was particularly fond of the verse, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:1616For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16). He used to say, “That word whosoever is the most comforting in the whole Bible. If God had said that there was mercy for Richard Baxter, I am so great a sinner that I would have thought he meant some other person of the same name. But when He says ‘whosoever’ I know that includes me, the worst of all Richard Baxters.”
