The account of the gospel reaching Corinth is recorded in Acts 18. The Apostle labored there a year and a half. Now he gives instruction for order and discipline among these Christians. They had been idolaters and, having such a bad background, had much to learn. What a change had taken place in the lives of these believers! But there was a danger that these believers at Corinth would behave as they did before, so Paul instructs them as to proper behavior that was pleasing to the Lord. Although we often fail, what a comfort it is to know that He still loves us, will never leave us, and will confirm us blameless until the very end. Because of the low moral standards that existed in Corinth, Paul wanted to speak only the words that God had for them. His purpose was to preach the gospel, not to see how many he could baptize. And what joy it brought to his heart as many of them believed the good news of salvation and turned to the Lord. Believing Jews and Greeks found that the power of God and the wisdom of God were all in Christ. What they had before did not bring them any closer to God, but had led them astray. But now they learned that God had chosen things that the world considers weak and foolish to set aside what man thinks. We want God’s thoughts, not ours. Then we can give all the glory to Him!
