This beginning that John is writing about is the time when the eternal Son of God came into this world as a baby. Jesus is the Word of life. Jesus is eternal life. Jesus is a real man, and He is God. It is so amazing that John and the other apostles heard Him speak, they saw Him with their own eyes, and they touched Jesus. John is so happy in this chapter to let us know Jesus is the eternal God. God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. As we get to know this Person, Jesus Christ, we will experience fullness of joy when we fellowship with Him. The apostles teach us about Jesus Christ — about His love, His works, His life, His Person, and His holiness.
Walking in the light is to read the Bible and to practice what we learn. As we obey the Word of God, we have fellowship with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.
The blood of Jesus Christ has cleansed us from all our sin. This makes it possible for us to have fellowship with other believers who are also walking in the light. When we walk in the light, we will know when we sin. If we sin, we need to confess our sin so we can enjoy God’s forgiveness.
