123. Make to Yourselves Friends of the Mammon of Unrighteousness

As to Luke 16:99And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (Luke 16:9), we read it in the light of 1 Timothy 5:1,17-191Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; (1 Timothy 5:1)
17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine. 18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The laborer is worthy of his reward. 19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. (1 Timothy 5:17‑19). Both passages teach us to use the present in the light of the future. This world’s riches do not, properly, belong to the heavenly man; but, should they fall into his hands, he is called to make friends of them, by turning them to account in the service of Christ, assured of this, that in “the time to come,” and in those “everlasting habitations,” we shall reap a full reward. Oh, for more consecration of heart and life to Christ, and His cause in this world!
