The Apostle Paul encourages the Corinthians to work together with him, even though it may be difficult. God has not promised us an easy path. Paul led by example and was not as those who bound heavy burdens on others but would not move them with one of their fingers (Matthew 23:44For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. (Matthew 23:4)). Be sure that if a Christian gives offense in anything, the ministry will be blamed. In serving the Lord, we will encounter opposition and ridicule, requiring much patience if we are to succeed as ministers of God. In spite of being maligned, the child of God must continue doing that which is right on every hand and never let his armor down. It is very important that a believer be not unequally yoked (joined) together with an unbeliever, because they have nothing in common. Those who have disobeyed God in this matter have found what an unhappy thing such a union is. Will two different animals, yoked together, pull in harmony? Neither will it work for a believer and an unbeliever, for they have two different masters. The Corinthians were to separate from the idolatry all around them and then God would be as a Father to them and they would be as sons and daughters to Him. Only if we obey can this relationship be enjoyed.
