There has been another foreclosure. There is another little house sitting vacant, another family gone from the neighborhood — gone from what they once called their “forever home.” The last pickup load has gone, we don’t know where.
There was once a teacher who told her class how much she loved her home and said that she hoped to live there the rest of her life. One of her very young pupils came home wide-eyed with astonishment. “Can she really do that?” he asked. “Can she really live there all the years?”
Of course she can! She can live in that one house “all the years” of her life, but who can tell how long that will be?
God knows. He alone can tell the limits of our lives on earth. He knows if we have another home, “a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
“Eternal in the heavens!” Now that’s a “forever house!” The price of that house was paid when Jesus died on the cross. Now that wonderful home forever can be yours, if you will accept it as it really is — the free gift of God. “As many as received Him [Jesus Christ], to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:1212But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12)). It was a terrible, terrible price He paid. All He asks of us in return is that we believe — and receive — and accept that incredible gift of life.
Can you refuse?
