What shall I wish you this New Year?
Health, wealth, prosperity, good cheer,
All sunshine, not a cloud or tear?
No, only this:
That God may lead you His own way,
That He may choose your path each day,
That you will feel Him near alway,
For this is bliss.
I dare not ask aught else for thee;
How could I tell what best would be?
But God, the end of all can see;
His will is best.
To know He rules, come loss or gain,
Sorrow or gladness, sun or rain,
To know He loves in ease or pain,
Is perfect rest.
