Abraham is referred to in Matthew (1:1, 2, 17; 3:9; 8:11; 22:32), Mark (12:26), Luke (1:55, 73; 3:8, 34; 13:16, 28; 16:22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30; 19:9; 20:37), John (8:33, 37, 39, 40, 52, 53, 56, 57, 58), Acts (3:13, 25; 7:2, 8, 16, 17, 32; 13:26), Romans (4:1, 2, 3, 9, 12, 13, 16; 9:7; 11:1), 2 Corinthians (11:22); Galatians (3:6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 18, 29; 4:22), Hebrews (2:16; 6:13; 7:1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9; 11:8, 17), James (2:21, 23), and 1 Peter (3:6).
These references utilize Abraham in the following ways:
1.  As the founder of the nation of Israel and the one to whom the covenant was made (Matt. 3:99And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. (Matthew 3:9); Luke 1:55,73;3:8;13:1655As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. (Luke 1:55)

4.  As a type of God the Father, perhaps the only type of the Father in the Old Testament (John 8:5656Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. (John 8:56))
5.  As a precedent for salvation by faith, apart from law (Rom. 4:1-3,9-131What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. (Romans 4:1‑3)
9Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 10How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. (Romans 4:9‑13); Gal. 3:6,14,186Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. (Galatians 3:6)
14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Galatians 3:14)
18For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. (Galatians 3:18); James 2:2323And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. (James 2:23))

8.  As a confidant of God (Matt. 22:3232I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. (Matthew 22:32); Mark 12:2626And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 9.  As associated with the blessedness of the believing dead (Luke 16:22-25,29-3022And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. (Luke 16:22‑25)
29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. (Luke 16:29‑30);
10.  As a highly significant historical figure (John 8:52,53,57,5852Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? (John 8:52‑53)
57Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. (John 8:57‑58); Acts 7:1616And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. 11.  As the progenitor of the Aaronic priesthood (Heb. 7:9,5-69And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. (Hebrews 7:9)
5And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: 6But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. (Hebrews 7:5‑6))
12.  As a husband whose wife set an example of godly submission (1 Peter 3:66Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. (1 Peter 3:6))
