Awake! awake! in happy song,
Ye children great and small,
And join to sing the praises sweet
Of Him who died for all.
He left His bright and happy home
To seek and save the lost,
A babe in Bethlehem's manger lay,
Awaking heavenly host.
He trod this earth, a lowly man,
For three-and-thirty years,
And then was nailed on Calvary's tree,
To still our guilty fears.
And now He's gone to heaven again,
And sits on glory's throne—
With open arms and loving smile,
He welcomes all who come.
It is because the Shepherd good,
For sheep and lambs did die,
That those who trust His precious blood
Shall dwell with Him on high.
Oh! may we all, a joyous band,
Give praises pure and sweet,
To please His heart, to make Him glad,
Till round His throne we meet.
