Question:
Would it be right to say that an individual was baptized into the body? Is
1 Cor. 12:13
13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:13)
true only of Pentecost?
Answer:
By the Holy Ghost we are baptized into one body. But baptism is never “into” anything, but “unto.” In this case the difference is not very great, but it is always the object to which we are baptized. It is the object of the Holy Ghost’s baptism; but as that is in power, they become members of it, and so it is treated here as in verse 19.
