Foolish souls! why will ye wander
In the ways of sin and death?
Cease like prodigals to squander
Passing time and fleeting breath;
Leave the paths your feet have trod,
BE YE RECONCILED TO GOD."
Who is He who thus beseeches
Rebel sinners to draw nigh,
'Tis our God, whose pardon reaches
All who will for mercy cry; Ere ye sleep beneath the sod,
BE YE RECONCILED TO GOD."
How could He, a God thrice holy,
News of peace and pardon send?
'Tis through Christ, the meek and lowly
Sinless One, the sinner's Friend;
He has shed His precious blood,
BE YE RECONCILED TO GOD."
But if still, for gain or pleasure,
Ye His wondrous grace repel,
Know that not a world of treasure
Could redeem your soul from Hell;
Haste to flee the avenging rod,
BE YE RECONCILED TO GOD."
