The literature bearing on the history of Christianity is so vast that no one person could read it all. The sources of the earlier history of the Church are found in the writings of Eusebius, Philostorgius, Socrates, Sozomen, Theodoret, Evagrius, the writings of the fathers, and, in later times, Bede. The Magdeburg Centuries were compiled in Reformation times, and later there are the well-known works of Mosheim, Neander and other German writers. To these must be added innumerable volumes in various languages, besides endless chronicles, records and ancient documents.
