“Son! Can you come over to the house quickly? Mom and I are both having terrible eye troubles this morning! We can’t see a thing!” said an almost panicked elderly Mr. McAllister.
Karl, the McAllisters’ son, told his dad he’d be right over. The McAllisters had barely been able to eat their breakfast because of this new eye problem of theirs. Then when they went to read their Bibles together after the meal, they both knew something really was dreadfully wrong. Neither could read a word from the Bible in front of them!
Karl came into his parents’ home and found them very distraught as they sat at the kitchen table. He took a good look at his father and another good look at his mother. He gently took off the glasses that were on his mother and put them by his father. He then gently took off the glasses that were on his father and put them by his mother. He then asked them to put on their own glasses that were beside them. Yes, the McAllisters had put on each other’s glasses! No wonder they couldn’t see
very well!
Children, we may smile at this story, but it made me think of a verse that is found in the book of Revelation, chapter 3 and verse 18. “I counsel thee to ... anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.” The Lord Jesus is offering His wonderful salvation to cure our spiritual blindness! I hope that today you will take His gift and be able to say, like a blind man who was healed by the Lord Jesus once said, “One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see” (John 9:2525He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. (John 9:25)).
