Planted by God. Psa. 104:16¹⁶The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; (Psalm 104:16). Isa, 41:19.

Made to glorify God. Psa. 148:9⁹Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars: (Psalm 148:9),

Lebanon celebrated for. Jud. 9:15, Psa. 92:12¹²The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. (Psalm 92:12).

Banks of rivers favorable to the growth of. Num. 24:6⁶As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the Lord hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters. (Numbers 24:6).

High. Isa. 37:24²⁴By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel. (Isaiah 37:24). Eze. 17:22²²Thus saith the Lord God; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: (Ezekiel 17:22). Amos 2:9⁹Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. Strong and durable. Isa. 9:10¹⁰The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars. (Isaiah 9:10).

Considered the first of trees. 1 Kin. 4:33.

Extensive commerce in. 1 Kin. 5:10, 11. Ezr. 3:7⁷They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. (Ezra 3:7).

USED IN

Building temples. 1 Kin. 5:5, 6. 1 Kin. 6:9, 10.

Building palaces. 2 Sam. 5:11¹¹And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house. (2 Samuel 5:11). 1 Kin. 7:2, 3.

Making masts of ships. Eze. 27:5⁵They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee. (Ezekiel 27:5).

Making wardrobes. Eze. 27:24²⁴These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise. (Ezekiel 27:24).

Making chariots. SoS. 3:9.

Purifying the leper. Lev. 14:4-7, 49-52⁴Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: ⁵And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water: ⁶As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water: ⁷And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field. Preparing the water of separation. Num. 19:6⁶And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer. (Numbers 19:6).

Making idols. Isa. 44:14¹⁴He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. (Isaiah 44:14).

Making its nest in. Jer. 22:23²³O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail! (Jeremiah 22:23).

Perching on the high branches of. Eze. 17:3³And say, Thus saith the Lord God; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar: (Ezekiel 17:3).

Instrumental in propagating. Eze. 17:4, 5⁴He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants. ⁵He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree. (Ezekiel 17:4‑5).

Destruction of, a punishment. Jer. 22:7⁷And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire. (Jeremiah 22:7).

Destruction of, exhibits God's power. Psa. 29:5⁵The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. (Psalm 29:5).

Majesty, strength, and glory of Christ. SoS. 5:15. Arrogant rulers. Isa. 2:13¹³And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan, (Isaiah 2:13). Isa. 10:33, 34³³Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. ³⁴And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one. (Isaiah 10:33‑34).
