Doubts and fears are often produced through souls being occupied with the work of the Spirit in them, instead of simply resting on the work of Christ for them. No soul ever found peace by looking in. There is the work of the Spirit surely. He sets apart, and is also the seal (1 Peter 1:22Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. (1 Peter 1:2); Eph. 4:3030And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)). Peace is known only by faith in Christ, and His finished work.
It is looking without at Christ, and not looking within at self, that brings peace.
If you reverse God’s order, the soul is filled with perplexity and doubt. Take His Word as He presents it, and all is simple. Peace and liberty are the blessed results.
The finished work of the Lord Jesus is of such infinite worth in the sight of God, that the moment a, sinner believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour, he is accepted of God in all the acceptance of Christ, the beloved, and in all the value of His work. He is brought into relationship with God as His child, and, instead of having a spirit of bondage again to fear, he receives the Spirit of adoption, whereby he cries, “Abba, Father.” God’s way of salvation is very simple.
“I want no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died
And rose again for me.”
