Conversion.

By God. 1 Kin. 18:37. John 6:44⁴⁴No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:44). Acts 21:19¹⁹And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. (Acts 21:19).

By Christ. Acts 3:26²⁶Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. (Acts 3:26). Rom. 15:18¹⁸For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, (Romans 15:18).

By the power of the Holy Ghost. Prov. 1:23²³Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. (Proverbs 1:23).

Isa. 23 of grace. Acts 11:21²¹And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (Acts 11:21), with verse Follows repentance. Acts 3:19¹⁹Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20²⁰But showed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. (Acts 26:20).

Is the result of faith. Acts 11:21²¹And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (Acts 11:21).

THROUGH THE INSTRUMENTALITY OF

The scriptures. Psa. 19:7⁷The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. (Psalm 19:7).

Ministers. Acts 26:18¹⁸To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18). 1 Thess. 1:9⁹For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; (1 Thessalonians 1:9).

Self-examination. Psa. 119:59⁵⁹I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. (Psalm 119:59). Lam. 3:40⁴⁰Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. (Lamentations 3:40).

Affliction. Psa. 78:34³⁴When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and inquired early after God. (Psalm 78:34).

OF SINNERS, A CAUSE OF JOY

To God. Eze. 18:23²³Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? (Ezekiel 18:23). Luke 15:32³²It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. (Luke 15:32)

To saints. Acts 15:3³And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. (Acts 15:3). Gal. 1:23,24²³But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. ²⁴And they glorified God in me. (Galatians 1:23‑24)

Is necessary. Matt. 18:3³And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3).

Commanded. Job 36:10¹⁰He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. (Job 36:10).

Exhortations to. Prov. 1:23²³Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. (Proverbs 1:23). Isa. 31:6⁶Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. (Isaiah 31:6). Isa. 55:7⁷Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7). Jer. 3:7⁷And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. (Jeremiah 3:7). Eze. 33:11¹¹Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? (Ezekiel 33:11).

Promises connected with. Neh. 1:9⁹But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there. (Nehemiah 1:9). Isa. 1:27²⁷Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness. (Isaiah 1:27). Jer. 3:14¹⁴Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: (Jeremiah 3:14). Ezek. 18:27²⁷Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. (Ezekiel 18:27).

Pray for. Psa. 80:7⁷Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. (Psalm 80:7). Psa. 85:4⁴Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease. (Psalm 85:4). Jer. 31:18¹⁸I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lord my God. (Jeremiah 31:18). Lam. 5:21²¹Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old. (Lamentations 5:21).

Is accompanied by confession of sin, and prayer. 1 Kin. 8:35.

Danger of neglecting. Psa. 7:12¹²If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. (Psalm 7:12). Jer. 44:5, 11⁵But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods. (Jeremiah 44:5)
¹¹Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. (Jeremiah 44:11). Ezek. 3:19¹⁹Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Ezekiel 3:19).

Duty of leading sinners to. Psa. 51:13¹³Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. (Psalm 51:13).

Encouragement for leading sinners to. Dan. 12:3³And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3). James 5:19, 20¹⁹Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; ²⁰Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (James 5:19‑20).

Of Gentiles, predicted. Isa. 2:2²And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. (Isaiah 2:2). Isa. 11:10¹⁰And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. (Isaiah 11:10). Isa. 60:5⁵Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. (Isaiah 60:5). Isa. 66:12¹²For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees. (Isaiah 66:12).

Of Israel, predicted. Ezek. 36:25-27²⁵Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. ²⁶A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. ²⁷And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. (Ezekiel 36:25‑27).
