Many people wonder why God would put such a chapter into the beautiful story of Joseph. Well it is profitable to see that in the list of the ancestors of our blessed Lord, in Matthew 1:1-3,1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren; 3And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; (Matthew 1:1‑3) this very incident is referred to! Our Lord was born into the tribe of Judah. This only magnified the grace of God. It shows us that the whole human race is bad. There is no good in any of us. The Lord Jesus was the only perfect Man who ever lived (Heb. 7:1414For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. (Hebrews 7:14)). But read of the transforming power (for us) of the death and resurrection of Christ (Heb. 10:1414For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)).
