Five-year-old Easton was very excited and could hardly wait to go to school the next day. It would be “Dress as Your Favorite Person Day,” and there was no question in his mind who he wanted to dress like!
The school that Easton went to had hired an armed security guard, and Easton admired him from the very first day that he met him. When the children asked him why he carried a gun, he told them that it was to protect them from anything that would try to hurt them.
The first day that Easton met Officer Cross, he came home and told his mother, “Officer Cross keeps us safe from the bad guys, Mommy. He makes me feel safe.” Officer Cross not only loves his job, but he also loves the children, giving them high-fives and hugs. Easton considered him his hero and so he wanted to dress just like him.
With his mother’s help, Easton was able to dress like a miniature version of Officer Cross. He proudly wore a bright yellow shirt just like his hero’s, only instead of “SECURITY,” Easton’s said “JUNIOR SECURITY.”
Easton was delighted with his look-alike outfit and couldn’t wait to get to his school on the special day. Officer Cross was waiting outside when the children arrived, and when he saw Easton’s outfit, he instantly knew what it meant. Officer Cross was thrilled and touched, and he said, “Just the fact that he shows his appreciation, and he hugs me when he sees me every morning – it really makes my day.”
Easton and Officer Cross made sure that they had their picture taken together. They both stood straight and tall, and, along with the yellow shirts, they wore big smiles on their faces! Easton loves Officer Cross very much! Clearly, Easton also trusts him and does not hesitate to show his appreciation and admiration for him. He is happy to tell anyone who will listen to him about his protector and friend!
The Bible tells us of One who is the greatest Protector of all. His name is Jesus and He is the Son of God. Jesus says of His sheep (those who trust in Him), “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one” (John 10:28-3028And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30I and my Father are one. (John 10:28‑30)). Boys and girls, this is the best security that anyone could possibly have!
When we come to Jesus in faith, we know from these verses that we have eternal life. We cannot see the Lord Jesus like Easton could see Officer Cross. But we can still open our hearts to Jesus in prayer and trust in Him. He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for our sins. When we are sorry for our sins and trust in the work that Jesus did on the cross to pay for them, we become one of Jesus’ sheep. Then no one, not even Satan, can take away our salvation or our place in heaven! Jesus is our strong protector!
