Éxodo 30:1-10; 37:25-27; 40:5¹And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it. ²A cubit shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; foursquare shall it be: and two cubits shall be the height thereof: the horns thereof shall be of the same. ³And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, the top thereof, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns thereof; and thou shalt make unto it a crown of gold round about. ⁴And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under the crown of it, by the two corners thereof, upon the two sides of it shalt thou make it; and they shall be for places for the staves to bear it withal. ⁵And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. ⁶And thou shalt put it before the vail that is by the ark of the testimony, before the mercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with thee. ⁷And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. ⁸And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. ⁹Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon. ¹⁰And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the Lord. ²⁵And he made the incense altar of shittim wood: the length of it was a cubit, and the breadth of it a cubit; it was foursquare; and two cubits was the height of it; the horns thereof were of the same. ²⁶And he overlaid it with pure gold, both the top of it, and the sides thereof round about, and the horns of it: also he made unto it a crown of gold round about. ²⁷And he made two rings of gold for it under the crown thereof, by the two corners of it, upon the two sides thereof, to be places for the staves to bear it withal. ⁵And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:5); Levítico 4:7; 16:18-19⁷And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. ¹⁸And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the Lord, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about. ¹⁹And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel. (Leviticus 16:18‑19)

El altar de perfume estaba dentro del Lugar Santo. Estaba hecho de madera de Sittim y de oro, y tenía una corona de oro en derredor.

Aquí debemos distinguir entre este vaso y el altar del holocausto. El altar delante de la puerta era de madera de Sittim y cobre; el altar dentro del Lugar Santo, de madera y oro. El altar de cobre era el lugar de sacrificio; el altar de oro el lugar de incienso. En aquél había continuamente un derramamiento de sangre; en éste un perfume perpetuo. El significado de todo esto es importante por las siguientes razones:

(1) El altar de bronce era del holocausto, y era figura de Cristo en la cruz.

(2) El altar, de oro, de perfume, representaba a Cristo resucitado y glorificado. Cristo en Su sacrificio en la cruz estuvo por nosotros en el lugar de muerte y juicio, y así satisfizo nuestra profunda necesidad como pecadores. Allí en la gloria Cristo siempre vive por nosotros en la presencia de Dios, supliendo toda nuestra necesidad como Sus santos y adoradores. Fuimos redimidos por Su sacrificio en la cruz; por fe perdonados, aceptados y hechos cercanos a Dios; y por Su intercesión nos mantiene en comunión.

Fue hecho de madera de Sittim y oro. La madera era figura de Su humanidad perfecta; el oro, de Su gloria divina como Hijo de Dios.

Exteriormente, no había ningún oro visible. Cuando Jesús estuvo en el mundo, era siempre el Dios-hombre como lo es ahora en el cielo, pero el oro —Su gloria divina— fue escondido de los ojos de los hombres.

Como dice en Isaías 53:2-3: “No hay parecer en Él, ni hermosura: verlo hemos, mas sin atractivo para que deseemos. Despreciado y desechado entre los hombres”.

Sí, pasó Jesús por esta tierra en humillación, no en gloria. Apareció entre los hombres “en forma de siervo” y en “semejanza de hombre” (Filipenses 2:7⁷But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:7)). Pero allá arriba donde está glorificado, el oro se ve en todo su brillo, y no hay velo para esconderlo. Él es el hombre Cristo Jesús tanto ahora como cuando estuvo en los brazos de María y ella lo apretó en su seno. Se compadece tanto ahora como cuando lloró ante el sepulcro de Lázaro, y desea que le conozcamos y que nos gocemos en Él como el que así quita nuestras penas. Está tan ocupado con nosotros ahora en medio de toda Su gloria como cuando en Su angustia nos amó hasta sangrar y morir. Su amor jamás puede enfriarse, porque es como “El mismo, ayer, y hoy, y por los siglos” (Hebreos 13:8⁸Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)). ¡Cuán bendito es conocerle allá como “el altar de oro ... delante del trono” (Apocalipsis 8:3³And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. (Revelation 8:3)), el que vive para siempre para interceder por Su pueblo abatido y cansado! (véanse Hebreos 7:25²⁵Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25); Romanos 8:34³⁴Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)). Puede “compadecerse” de nuestras flaquezas, porque es Hombre; puede “socorrer a los que son tentados”, porque es Dios (véase Hebreos 4:15; 2:18¹⁵For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)
¹⁸For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted. (Hebrews 2:18)).

Tenía una corona de oro

Hemos visto que el altar de perfume tenía una corona de oro en derredor. “Vemos coronado de gloria y de honra a Jesús” (Hebreos 2:9⁹But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2:9)). Alrededor del altar del holocausto no había corona, sino sangre y cenizas allí. Esto nos hace recordar Sus agonías en el Calvario. No hubo diadema de gloria en las sienes del Santo supliciado allí; solamente la corona enredada de espinas cuyos rubíes eran las gotas de sangre —joyas, de veras, de valor sin precio para el corazón del creyente—. Pero en aquellas mismas sienes, donde las manos malvadas impusieron una corona de espinas, la mano de Dios ha puesto una corona de honra y gloria. Sus “aflicciones” ya se pasaron; Sus glorias seguirán para siempre. Cuando venga Cristo en gloria, va a deponer al falso, el Anticristo, y sus glorias efímeras desaparecerán para siempre. Todo linaje, y lengua y pueblo se unirán para cantar:

“¡Ved a Cristo, ser de gloria!

Es del mundo el vencedor;

De la guerra vuelve invicto,

Todos deben darle loor.

¡Coronadle! ¡Coronadle!

Coronadle Rey de reyes;

Homenaje tributadle,

Tributad al Salvador”.

Aquellos, a quienes el Señor ha ganado para sí, librándoles del dominio de Satanás, éstos y solo éstos pueden verdaderamente adorar a Dios con voz alegre. De veras es una burla, en este siglo de Su rechazamiento, invitar a “todo pueblo que mora en la tierra” a cantar al Señor con voz alegre, cuando la mayoría de ellos son “hijos de desobediencia” (Efesios 2:2²Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (Ephesians 2:2)) y enemigos de Dios. Este mundo es culpable de haber repudiado Su nombre bendito y rechazado en general Su autoridad.

“Y quemará Aarón sobre él, sahumerio de aroma cada mañana” (Éxodo 30:7⁷And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it. (Exodus 30:7)). Leemos en Hebreos 13:15: “Ofrezcamos por medio de Él a Dios siempre sacrificio de alabanza”. En Apocalipsis 1:6⁶And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:6) leemos: “Nos ha hecho reyes y sacerdotes para Dios y Su Padre”. Así pues, se entiende que ahora Cristo es el altar y los creyentes en Él son los sacerdotes. El lugar terrenal de Dios de antaño era el tabernáculo y después el templo para la adoración; pero nuestro altar de oro está en el cielo, y allá por fe entramos en espíritu y adoramos a Dios por medio de Cristo.

De una manera especial, en el primer día de la semana congregamos a Cristo para partir el pan (Hechos 20:7⁷And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. (Acts 20:7)) en memoria de Él hasta que venga, pero en todo tiempo y en todo lugar el creyente debe de estar con ánimo para adorar. “De Ti será siempre mi alabanza” (Salmo 71:6⁶By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee. (Psalm 71:6)). “Dando gracias siembre de todo al Dios y Padre” (Efesios 5:20²⁰Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (Ephesians 5:20)). ¡Que sea así nuestra ocupación diaria, queridos lectores!
