Boyd’s Bible Dictionary
:
(yellowish brown). The bubalis or African
deer
(Deut. 14:5; 1 Kings 4:23). Some say the Arabian wild ox.
Concise Bible Dictionary
:
What species of
deer
is referred to under this name is not known. The only description of it in
scripture
is that it was a clean animal that the Israelites might eat, and that it was supplied to the
table
of
Solomon
(Deut. 14:5; 1 Kings 4:23). The
Hebrew
name seems to imply that it was some deer of a “red” color.
