Gladness

“Thou hast put gladness in my heart.” (Psa. 4:7⁷Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. (Psalm 4:7)).

Worldly joys put gladness into the face. The rich Corinthians “glory in the appearance, and not in heart” (2 Cor. 5:12¹²For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. (2 Corinthians 5:12)); but the Spirit of God puts gladness into the heart; divine joys are heart joys.

“Their heart shall rejoice in the Lord.” (Zech. 10:7⁷And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the Lord. (Zechariah 10:7)).

“Your heart shall rejoice.” (John 16:22²²And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. (John 16:22)).
