Good-night, my darling Nellie,
It’s time you were asleep;
When mother comes to bed, dear,
At you she’ll have a peep.
See! nurse the candle’s bringing,
To carry you away,
There’s no more time for singing,
But don’t forget to pray.
Then soon our little Nellie
Is sleeping safe and sound,
No thought of any trouble
In her young heart is found.
Well, sleep on, dearest Nellie,
There’s nothing you need fear
Will harm you in the darkness,
For God is ever near.
‘Tis sweet to know that Jesus
Takes special care of those
Who look to Him for safety,
And in His love repose.
O! may we ever trust Him,
Not only night and day,
But for our soul’s salvation:
For Christ He is the way.
Then reader, nurse, and Nellie
Will meet with all above,
To chant the wondrous story
Of Jesus and His love.
