The subject of the priesthood of Christ is now pursued as having either a contrast or an analogy to that of Aaron. Aaron, as priest, could have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is encompassed with infirmity. (See also

And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.

My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.

The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts. (Malachi 2:4‑7)

When in this world, "in the days of his flesh," the Lord Jesus felt need, testings, temptations, weariness, being alone, being misunderstood, having His life threatened.
He learned obedience "by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (
Heb. 5:8,9

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews 5:6)
the 110th Psalm is applied to Christ. He is "a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec" by divine decree.
