“Rest in the Lord”
(
Psalm 37:7
7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (Psalm 37:7)
).
Through the turmoil and bustle of life we have a wonderful invitation from the Lord Himself:
“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”
(
Matthew 11:28
28
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
). At a difficult time in the lives of the disciples when they had just buried John the Baptist, the Lord said,
“Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while”
(
Mark 6:31
31
And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. (Mark 6:31)
).
When something in your life or thoughts makes you anxious, go to the Lord about it.
“Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”
(
Philippians 4:6
6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)
). These are opportunities to experience His healing and rest of soul. They are times when we can learn that the blessings far outweigh the difficulties. And they are times when we can learn what it is to really
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart”
(
Proverbs 3:5
5
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)
).
The world teaches that peace and rest of mind come from having enough money, possessions, insurance, a better job, and a good security system. But
the peace and rest that the Lord gives is all-encompassing and independent of all circumstances
. Though you lose everything else, if you gain and enjoy His peace, you are rich indeed. When we learn this in a practical way our hearts are once again enlarged.
