Created by God. Gen. 1:24, 25²⁴And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. ²⁵And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:24‑25).

DIVIDED INTO

Clean and fit for food. Lev. 11:21, 22²¹Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; ²²Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. (Leviticus 11:21‑22).

Unclean and abominable. Lev. 11:23, 24²³But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. ²⁴And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even. (Leviticus 11:23‑24).

Ant. Prov. 6:6⁶Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: (Proverbs 6:6). Prov. 30:25²⁵The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; (Proverbs 30:25).

Bee. Judg. 14:8⁸And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion. (Judges 14:8). Psa. 118:12¹²They compassed me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. (Psalm 118:12). Isa. 7:18¹⁸And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. (Isaiah 7:18).

Beetle. Lev. 11:22²²Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. (Leviticus 11:22).

Caterpillar. Psa. 78:46⁴⁶He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labor unto the locust. (Psalm 78:46). Isa. 33:4⁴And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. (Isaiah 33:4).

Cankerworm. Joel 1:4⁴That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten. (Joel 1:4). Nah. 3:15, 16¹⁵There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts. ¹⁶Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away. (Nahum 3:15‑16).

Earthworm. Job 25:6⁶How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm? (Job 25:6). Mic. 7:17¹⁷They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the Lord our God, and shall fear because of thee. (Micah 7:17).

Flea. 1 Sam. 24:14¹⁴After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. (1 Samuel 24:14).

Fly. Ex. 8:22²²And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. (Exodus 8:22). Ecc. 10:1. Isa. 7:18¹⁸And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. (Isaiah 7:18).

Gnat. Matt. 23:24²⁴Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. (Matthew 23:24).

Grasshopper. Lev. 11:22²²Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. (Leviticus 11:22). Judg. 6:5⁵For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. (Judges 6:5). Job 39:20²⁰Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. (Job 39:20).

Hornet. Deut. 7:20²⁰Moreover the Lord thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed. (Deuteronomy 7:20).

Locust. Ex. 10:12, 13¹²And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. ¹³And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. (Exodus 10:12‑13).

Bald locust. Lev. 11:22²²Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. (Leviticus 11:22).

Lice. Ex. 8:16¹⁶And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. (Exodus 8:16). Psa. 105:31³¹He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts. (Psalm 105:31).

Maggot. Ex. 16:20²⁰Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. (Exodus 16:20).

Moth. Job 4:19¹⁹How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? (Job 4:19). Job 27:18¹⁸He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. (Job 27:18). Isa. 50:9⁹Behold, the Lord God will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up. (Isaiah 50:9).

Palmer-worm. Joel 1:4⁴That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten. (Joel 1:4). Amos 4:9⁹I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord. (Amos 4:9).

Spider. Job 8:14¹⁴Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. (Job 8:14). Prov. 30:28²⁸The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces. (Proverbs 30:28).

Fed by God. Psa. 104:25, 27²⁵So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. (Psalm 104:25)
²⁷These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. (Psalm 104:27). Psa. 145:9, 15⁹The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. (Psalm 145:9)
