Is Roman Catholicism of God? Introduction

THE last Chapter of the Bible contains a most solemn warning: "I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book " (Rev. 22:18,1918For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18‑19)).
Nothing can be more solemn or searching than this Scripture. We are assured that every addition to God's word is at the same time a taking away from it. Every addition is a tampering with God's revealed word, and therefore to its detriment. What has Roman Catholicism to say to this?
