The Lord will be no man’s debtor. If Simon let the Lord use his ship, he would be repaid. So many fish landed in his net that it broke. There were so many fish that, when others came to help haul them in, their ships started to sink.
In the Old Testament, Elisha never touched Naaman the leper, but in our chapter, the Lord did touch a man who was full of leprosy. Jesus did not become defiled; rather, the leper became clean. A king once said that only God could recover a man of leprosy (2 Kings 5:7). Do you know who Jesus is?
Sin is a disease that afflicts all men, but many are not aware of it. The Pharisees and doctors of the law did not think they had this sin sickness. But the Lord had the power to heal them if they were only willing.
The scribes and Pharisees did not eat with publicans and sinners, because they thought they were righteous. However, the Lord Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Another thing that the followers of the Pharisees did was fast, or not eat food for a certain period of time. It is not a happy experience to go without eating. The Lord said that the days were coming when His disciples would fast because He (the bridegroom) would be taken from them. How happy they will be when He comes again! “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:2020He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)).
