Listen from:
Great multitudes were following the Lord as He taught and healed them. When we read the Bible, the Lord is still willing to teach us if we want to learn. The Pharisees were not really willing to learn. They often tried to trap the Lord with their questions. In the matter of divorce, the Lord Jesus took them back to the beginning of creation when God made male and female.
How the Lord loved the little children! He said that we must receive the kingdom of God as a little child, or we would not enter into it. He not only touched these children, but He took them up in His arms and blessed them.
Don’t you think that the rich young man was very earnest? He came running and then kneeled before the Lord. As a boy, he was probably well-behaved, for he tried to keep the commandments. The one thing he seemed to lack was faith in the Lord Jesus. But this is the only way to receive eternal life. He went away grieved, because he chose great possessions rather than following the Lord.
As they continued on their journey to Jerusalem, the Lord was calm, but the disciples were afraid of the danger that lay ahead. The Lord said He would be put to death, and on the third day He would rise again. How soon the disciples forgot what He told them!
As they journeyed through Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimeus inquired as to why such a great crowd was passing by. The people said they were following Jesus of Nazareth. Then why did he cry out, “Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me”? He had God-given faith to see that Jesus of Nazareth was the Son of David. He received spiritual sight first, and then the Lord gave him natural sight. Do you know what the poor beggar did that the rich young man didn’t do? He followed Jesus in the way!
