Nahum 1:7‑8

“The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him. But with an overrunning flood He will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies” —Nahum 1:7, 87The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. 8But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies. (Nahum 1:7‑8).
HOW vivid is the contrast here! To those who trust Him, the Lord is indeed good; they find in Him a fortress in the time of danger, and can rest in confidence no matter what difficulties they have to face, assured that He knoweth them that trust in Him. But how different it is with the wicked that know not God! They imagine evil against Him, but in the day when He rises up in His wrath to deal with them, His judgments will be like an overrunning flood carrying all before them, and His enemies will go out into the blackness of darkness forever.
“Sinners, the voice of God regard;
‘Tis mercy speaks today;
He calls you by His sacred Word
From sin’s destructive way.
Why will you in the crooked ways
Of sin and folly go?
In pain you travel all your days,
To reach eternal woe.
But he that turns to God shall live,
Through His abounding grace:
His mercy will the guilt forgive
Of those that seek His face.”
―W. Scott.
