The chastisement of our peace was upon Him.
We were enemies of God, not by His choice but by ours. Peace had to be made and Jesus was willing to make that peace. He did so through His death on the cross. The punishment needed to bring peace with God was borne by Him. It is because of the death of Jesus that we now have peace with God.
