Let us sing.
Number 173173 A little while the Lord shall come, and we shall wander here no more. He'll take us to His Father's home, where He for us has gone before to dwell with Him, to see his face and sing the glories of His grace.
Political.
Turn to the book of Exodus, please.
Exodus Chapter.
8.
We'll just read a few verses here and there as our time is not too long.
And the 22nd verse of Exodus 88.
And I will sever.
In that day, the land of Goshen.
In which my people dwell.
That no swarms of flies shall be there.
To then thou mayest know that I am the Lord in the midst of their.
And I will put a division between my people and thy people.
Tomorrow shall a sign be.
00:10:06
And verse 25.
Unfair. Call for emotions and errands. Unfair.
Go ye.
Sacrifice to your God in the land.
And Moses said it does not meet. So to do what we shall sacrifice the abomination.
Of the Egyptians to the Lord our God.
Lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of Egyptians?
Before their eyes. And will they not stone us?
We will go three days journey into the wilderness.
On sacrifice to the Lord our God, as He shall command us.
And Pharaoh said.
I will let you go.
That you may sacrifice to the Lord your God and the wilderness only.
Ye shall not go very far away.
And treat for me.
Then turn to the 10th chapter.
True.
Verse 7.
And Pharaoh's.
Servants said unto him.
How long should this man be a snare antwash?
Let the man go, they may serve the Lord their God. Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?
And Moses and there were brought again onto Pharaoh, And he said unto them.
Go serve the Lord your God.
What? Who are they that shall go?
And Moses said we will go with our young.
And without all, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds, will we go. We must hold a feast unto the Lord.
And he said unto them, Let the Lord be so with you, as I will let you go when your little ones look to it, for even is before you.
Not so go now, ye that are men.
And serve the Lord.
For that be the desire.
And they were driven out from.
Pharaoh's peasants.
Verse 24.
And Pharaoh called on to Moses and said.
Oh yeah.
Only let your flocks and your herds be stayed.
Let your little ones also go with you.
And Moses said.
Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God.
Our cattle also shall go with us.
There shall not unhook be left behind.
For their off must we take to serve the Lord our God.
And we know not with what we must say. The Lord will we come feather.
Now we have in these portions which I read.
What are sometimes called Pharaoh's compromises?
That is, Pharaoh after the judgments of God had fallen upon him.
Very severely, very heavily. He was willing to.
Go a certain length and letting the children of Israel go.
He didn't want to lose the mall because, you know, they were born slaves and he was getting free work from them. Millions of them were serving Pharaoh and Egyptians free of charge.
00:15:10
They were born slaves in the land of Egypt.
But the judgments of God were falling upon Pharaoh, and God said, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness.
But Pharaoh didn't want to let them go. They want to hold on to them as long as they could, and so he makes things various compromises.
Allowing in each case a certain part of them to go, but he wanted, he wanted to hold enough of a grip on them that he could get them back again. We just look for a little while these compromises, the first one is found.
And the 21St verse.
But before we read that, let's read the 23rd verse.
And he says here I will put our division between my people and my people. God is speaking here and the word for division there as a word which means redemption.
I will put our redemption between my people and thy people.
Redemption comes in these people of Israel. Where are redeemed people?
Redemption hasn't come yet, but later on we find that a redeemed people.
And they're redeemed by the blood of the Passover lamb.
Remember how in the 12Th chapter?
God tells the people of Israel.
Take you every man along alarm alarm for the household.
And slay the lamb, take a bunch of his yeah, but then the base on the blood and sprinkle over the door and on each door post.
And stay inside all night until the morning.
Or I will Passover the land of Egypt this night.
And the blood shall be all to you, for a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you. And the children of Israel that night were sheltered behind the blood of the Passover lamb.
And they were safe there, sheltered behind that precious blood.
Well, we know from Scripture that that little Passover lamb was a type of the Lord Jesus Christ.
And the first Corinthians 5, the apostle Paul says.
Even Christ, our Passover.
As sacrificed.
Or us. And then we're told in first Peter one ye are redeemed.
Lord, with corruptible things of silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.
Hours of alarm, without blemish and without spot. There's your Passover lamb again.
The Lord Jesus Christ was a type. The undertype of the apostle were allowed another lamb whose blood was shed and sprinkled over the doorpost and on either side. That little lamb was a type of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the John the Baptist when he saw the Lord Jesus coming.
Says those memorable words, those words we all know so well. Behold the Lamb of God the taketh away the sin of the world. There's God's love. And just as that lamb was slain in Egypt and his blood sprinkled over the door, so our blessed Savior went to Calvary's course and his blood was shed there and all thrust and that blessed Lord Jesus Christ.
As their savior, everyone that does such is redeemed.
00:20:02
By the precious blood of Christ, as of alarm, without blemish and without spot.
Now these children of Israel before God speaks of.
Setting them free and before fear begins his compromising, God has said.
I will put our redemption between my people and my people.
That is, God's people is real. We are redeemed people, but the people of Israel were not redeemed.
And those whom God desires to go and live for him, to sacrifice to him in the wilderness, and to walk their way toward the land of Canaan, those where are the Dean people. And we find out that they went after a while. They went to the land of Canaan, to Gods, God's land of loveliness. But the children of Egypt, they stayed well aware.
And is refined further along. The judgment of God fell upon the Egyptians.
I would put a division, I will put a redemption between my people and my people here to cluster people, the people of God and the people of Pharaoh. Now Pharaoh and Scripture, I believe, is a type of picture of Satan, the ruler of this world. Pharaoh was the world's great king.
And were told in the word of God.
That Satan is the ruler of this world, the blessed Lord Jesus calls him.
The Prince of this world. That's why this world is the full of trouble. That's why this world is filled with people planning and scheming to kill each other.
You don't find anything like that in the animal creation. You don't find the lions of the forest bonding together to kill each other.
You don't find the tigers of the forest bonding together to kill each other, but you find human beings, millions of them.
Great armies of millions.
Trained and finally together to kill other members of the human race.
Does not tell us their sad story that they're all under the dominion of the Prince of Darkness, Satan.
And everyone here in this room that's not saved as a slave of Satan under his dominion, under his power, but everyone that that knows Christ our Savior has been delivered, we've been redeemed. We belong to Christ. And now God would say to us, get out of Egypt and go toward that land of promise.
And live for me and serve me and do my will. And so these children of Israel, they're to be set free now. And they worked on the way to Canaan, and they worship God and serve him along the way.
Well, you and I, dear Christian, you and I are on our way to the glory.
And we are passing through an enemy's land.
You know, it's a remarkable thing.
The children of Israel.
Were a picture of God's redeemed people.
But you know, types fall very far short of the reality.
For instance.
When we'll begin this story, we'll find Israel and the land of Egypt, a type of the world.
Then we find them in the wilderness, but you know when they're in the wilderness they were not in Asia. And then after a while we find them in the land of Canaan. Well, when were the land of Canaan? They were neither in the wilderness nor in Egypt. But you know, the Christian nowadays has seen us being in all three places, That is when united, saved.
00:25:10
We're still in this world.
But oh, thank God.
We can ban it, but not all but and the Lord Jesus says on John 17.
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
But the same chapter, he says.
I pray not that those should take them out of the world, but they should keep them from the evil till they're still left in the world. But they're not over. And in spirit will. Their bodies are here, and spirit were marching through the wilderness on toward our heavenly home, pictured by the land of Canaan. We're seeing them skip their two as being in the wilderness.
Pilgrims on strangers or strangers and pilgrims in this world marching through it on their way to glory. And then we're staying as seated and the heavenly places and Christ Jesus. That's what Kanan pictures were seen as an heavenly places in Christ Jesus. That's our place before God in Christ there at God's right hand.
But you know, I'm Canaan. The people of Israel had lots of fighting to do, and so do we. And so we've had the last day or two, We've had that chapter, the 6th chapter of Ephesians. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rules of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places or in heavenly places.
And so that conflict goes on.
But what we have here in this chapter is the fact that the children of Israel are called to leave Egypt and at work and start on their journey toward the land of Sinner.
So Moses says.
We want to go and sacrifice to our God.
And Pharaoh says, all right, I am quite willing that you should sacrifice to your God. I won't hinder your religious feelings. I won't hinder you from being as religious as you want to. But you sacrifice to your God in Milan. That's all right.
You know the devil would like to have the dear young Christian.
I'd like to have you.
Linked up with the world.
That's it. You can offer sacrifices to God in Egypt, Pharaoh says. We are quite willing that she offers sacrifices, but you stay right here and sacrifice all you want.
All the world thing says, well, that's all right to be a Christian, but you don't need to be so narrow about it. You don't need to be so seclusive.
Why can't you come and join us in our in our fun?
And our pleasures and our amusements. Why can't you be a jolly Goodfellow along with the rest of us?
I remember when I was a boy.
We had a team a la cross team in my hometown.
And.
Some of the team came to me and they said Tom would like you to join our lacrosse team. That was a good one too.
As a good and best team in the British Islands at that time in my little town in Ireland.
The leading team of Canada, Goborne played all for the British Islands and played Australia. They came back and played my hometown and they said it was the best team that met and all their world travels.
And that's the team that those boys wanted me to join.
Oh, I said no.
I don't want to join.
All the said Tom, we need boys like you. You're a Christian and you'll have a good life. You don't swear nor curse.
00:30:07
And we need boys like you and our team to help the rest of us. You know your presence would be a help to the rest of us.
Oh, that's the way the world talks. Join them in the world and help them along. Join in the world and try to improve them. Try to make them make this world a better world to live in. That's the way folks talk nowadays.
Yes, sacrifice to your God in the land, but what is God's word saying? That's the question.
God's word says come out from among them.
Unveil your separate, saith the Lord. Touch not the unclean thing.
And I will receive you, and will be our Father unto you, and so on.
God's word says come out. Pharaoh says come in.
What are we going to do about it? Oh dear, dear young folks, let's remember this.
That this world bordered our blessed Savior, God's beloved Son.
This world didn't want him 2000 years ago. That lovely man.
Who went about doing good?
Raising the dead, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, speaking words of blessing on every hand. And the world hated him without a cause and railed him to a cross. That's the world you and I live in. And we're told, and Jamesy Thistle, the friendship of this world is enmity with God.
The friendshipless world enmity with God. The world has rejected the Lord Jesus and have never repented of it. Yet never.
They're still rejecting him.
On the pure standard of the state corner, as I have done many a time.
And told the people as they passed by about the love of Christ.
And hear what they say when they are told of that love of the Savior. Hear the remarks.
There are scoffs. There are scornings.
Showing forth the hatred to Christ.
All the world hits the Savior. Shall you and I go on and fellowship.
With a world that hits God's dear Son.
No.
No, Moses says, when Pharaoh said sacrifice to God in the land.
Moses says we will go three days journey into the wilderness.
And sacrifice the Lord our God as he shall command us.
Three days journey.
Three days away from Egypt.
That's getting a good way off.
That three day speaks, you know, of Christ and resurrection.
In three days he rose again.
Arisen Savior, and He became the head of that new creation of whichever redeemed soul as a part.
And Moses says we'll go three days journey.
We'll get away as far as we can from Egyptian *******.
And then Pharaoh says.
I will let you go.
That may sacrifice to your Lord God and the wilderness only.
Ye shall not go very far away.
Yes, they compromise. I'm willing to have you go out of Egypt and the wilderness.
Since she won't sacrifice and Egypt, I'm quite willing now.
If it has to be so, I'm quite willing that you go out in the wilderness, but don't go very far away.
00:35:06
You know the devil comes.
And he says to us, well.
As you must walk on separation from the world.
And she must obey that word, come out from among them, and be a separate.
And so that was me, but don't go very far away.
Stay close to the borderline.
Stay near the fence.
So they can get over the fence, you can at least speak through and get a little bit of the world.
You know, it used to be years ago.
That sometimes round round a pleasure resort.
Around the ball field we've seen great big high fences so that folks couldn't see over the fence.
And we've seen little boys going up there and picking through a knothole in the fence.
On watching the sports through the north hole, they didn't go very far away.
You know, there are lots of the Lords people just like that.
Maybe we've all been right there at times.
We felt our place was outside.
Don't go very far away, but all our heart was on the other side of the fence and we'd like to peek through the knothole.
We may not go out at the world, you know.
But you know, remarkable things have happened the last few years.
We have got implements and we have got appliances now that instead of going out in the world, all you got to do is to turn them off and the world comes inside, right through the walls and there it is right in your parlor.
Very handy.
You don't have to go to the world. Turn the button and the world will come in.
And oh, what effect does it have on the soul?
I remember over in England pitching in England good many years ago.
And there was a football player.
And one of the cities of England that I got acquainted with.
And this football player was one of the of the cities leading teams.
And he just loved the game.
But God saved that young man's soul.
And he left the team and he left.
The Football Associations.
But you know, he said. I just love the game.
On one day shortly after I was saved.
My home team that I used to belong to was to play a team from another city. And he says, oh, I was so anxious to see the game and again with a crowd and watch the game. But he says I belong to the Lord now and so I was afraid to stay around.
In case I might be tempted to go. And So what do you think happened? Oh, there didn't have any cars in those parts of that at that time?
And he says just one hour before the game was to start, he says I started out for the country and I walked and walked and walked away from the country. And I knew that that I get so far away when the bull game started, I couldn't get back if I wanted to.
I am so racist. I missed the game, didn't I? I wasn't back at the game because I couldn't get back even I wanted to and so I got away as hard as I could. It was 4 miles out in the country.
When the ball game started and was over before they get back and so he missed the game.
00:40:02
That's the way he heard of protecting himself, so to speak, from the temptation he got as far away as he could. Well, Pharaoh says, don't go very far away.
The devil knows if we stay close by the world or it's got such powerful attractions.
As God sets powerful attractions, it may draw us back.
If we stay too close.
Get away, far away.
Ah, if we remember that three days, the death and resurrection of Christ. If I remember that my blessed Savior died for me in Calvary's cross.
That my sins, my evil of every kind, my evil thoughts.
My selfish thoughts and selfish borders, that all those things help to nail my Saviour to their curse of three. And he died for me. And then he rose again back to God's right hand and glory. And there is at God's right hand on high, and on his hands he bears the marks of a nail prints.
I saw alarm, I said had been slain. We're told there is the blessed Saviour who died for me, who died for you, dear Christian. And we did that before us. Oh, what a powered house to separate us, this present evil world.
And so Pharaoh says go not very far away.
And he wouldn't let them go.
Because they were determined to go 3 days journey.
10th chapter.
And verse.
That's it.
Pharaoh says after another judgment fell.
Go serve the Lord your God.
But who are they that shall go?
Moses says we will all go.
Whether young or whether old.
With our sons, With their daughters.
With our clocks in our heads, we're all going to go.
And Pharaoh says not so go now ye that are a man.
Pharaoh wanted them to leave the little ones behind.
Leave their boys and girls behind.
Fear was a tricky fool. He knew very well that if they left the little ones behind, they'd soon be back. Because you know, our hearts, our hearts cling to our little ones. Our hearts love our little ones, our dear children.
Oh, some of you dear young folks here, jiving little ones.
Little children in your homes. And those little children, remember they're living in a wicked, wicked world.
Are you going to bring them up for the Lord Jesus?
Or you're going to plunge them into the world the world were sitting rings the world that on the judgment of a holy God and very soon and all likelihood very soon that judgment will fall. First of all, thank God the Lord gathers you people home and afterwards safe home then short it will come that terrible judgment.
I'm going to leave our little ones in a world that's on the judgment of God.
No, says Moses. We will go with her old and with our young.
With our children, we're going to take them all with us.
Oh, you dear young people, don't you want your children to be in the glory, Don't you?
Well, if you do, if you want your children to be in the glory, remember that there's only one Savior. That's the Lord Jesus Christ. Under the Lord, come to Him.
00:45:02
Oh, they'll never be in the glory, as they don't come to the Lord. Jesus Christ is the only Savior.
Oh, it's a grand thing when the children and their parents are all on their way to glory.
We will take our little ones.
Will take all of God, Will take them all out of Egypt.
You know, sometimes God used the little ones with a blessing of the parents. It's a God thing. We can all come to glory together. I remember I used to live in Minneapolis, MN years ago.
I knew a man there. His name was Joe Brownwell.
Andy Hardman at one time a very wicked on godly man. It was a bricklayer by trade, our cursing, swearing on godly man.
He had a dear wife, a Christian, and a dear little child.
About seven years of age, as I remember.
Unusual. Quite well.
We used to go to the same gospel meetings and preach the gospel together after Joe got saved. But Joe was a wild, ungodly money. He wouldn't go anywhere to hear the gospel.
Well, one day, you know his wife arranged with a company of Christians, the company Joe's House, to have a prayer meeting for the gospel.
So she wanted Joe to stay for permitting. Joe got home from his work.
And he found out at the word of a prayer meeting at his house that night.
And so says I am not going to be here, I won't stay.
But a little girl called Annie. Dear little Arnie.
She came to our daddy, she says. Oh, Daddy, won't you stay to the prayer meeting?
No, no, honey, no. I must get out. Oh, Daddy, won't you stay for my sake? I want you to stay. Daddy, won't you stay just to please me? Well, he loves that dear little girl.
And her pleading?
Was successful and he said, well, I'll stay, he says. But that will be the end of it.
And so, he said, the family.
One after another, those Christians.
Prayed for the gospel and prayed for the Lord's work. And then there was a little silence.
Our little irony's voice repair that. Lonnie tried it, oh Lord Jesus.
Save my dear Daddy, Lord Jesus, save my dear Daddy. And that man broke down right there and then he broke down.
And as the means of his salvation, the pleading prayer of little Arnie.
Oh Lord Jesus, save my dear Daddy, that monicette, how the Lord had saved his soul, broke him down through the instrumentality of that dear child, and then he and his child went on their way to glory. Well, dear Annie.
Died shortly after that.
And the little body was buried a little town I used to preach in little town of Bethel, MN. Dear Leilani shortly afterwards went to be with the Lord, but her father went on proclaiming the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and his spare time.
Oh, it's a grand thing when the fathers and mothers and children are all on the way to glory.
And you, dear fathers and mothers, don't rest satisfied until you see the little ones on their way to the glory of God through toasting and their blessed Lord Jesus Christ.
Our time is about up for justice. A word before we close on.
The 24th verse of the chapter, Chapter 10.
Another judgment falls, and then Pharaoh says.
00:50:04
Once more, verse 24.
Go, ye said the Lord, but let your flocks and hairs be stayed. That is all right. I'll let the go.
The children can go, the mothers can go, they can all go. But leave your cattle behind. Well, you know, that was their business. They were cattle man. They were shepherds, cattle men and were to leave their business behind.
Oh, you know, the devil says, well, now it's all right if you want to be a Christian, but you know, we're living in in the world and and, you know, those that are in Rome must do as Rome dogs. That's the old expression, you know.
And we're living in the world. We have to do things the way the world does them.
In other words, let your business go on the same way as the world carries on its business. But old friend, that isn't the way a Christian does his business. The Christian belongs to Christ, and all we have and all we are are His, and we must serve the Lord and our business.
We must do everything as unto the Lord, and so we have it in Colossians. Whatsoever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord, and not on demand. Our business, our business life must be carried on for the glory of Christ and according to the mind of Christ.
Oh, may the Lord help us to seek to please Him.
And all our walking ways for His glory in this dark, sinful world.
