With almost every square mile of what was once the old Roman Empire plunged into a struggling chaos of hatred, war, and slaughter; with nation rising against nation, kingdom against kingdom; with wars and rumors of wars so frequent as to lose their first awful shock to the minds and hearts of mankind,-must not even the careless Christian feel that the end is near? There is the famous proverb among men that, "Corning events cast their shadow before them." Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. (Revelation 3:10)
), yet it seems more than probable that the preparation for this "hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth," is being shadowed forth under our very eyes. Probably somewhere on this earth today that man, the antichrist, is nursing his base ambitions, and that other corning prince, the head of the future Roman Empire, is laying his plans for his great Confederacy.
Young Christian, let us search our Bibles, and see what light God has given us on these rapidly and surely approaching events. "Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when He will return from the wedding; that when He cometh and knocketh, they may open unto Him immediately." (
Luke 12:35, 36
