156. "Praise Ye the Lord," Again, Again

C.M.
by M. Bowley
1
"Praise ye the Lord," again, again,

The Spirit strikes the chord;

Nor toucheth He our hearts in vain;

We praise, we praise the Lord.
“Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalm 106:1)
“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” (Psalm 69:30)
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-20)
2
"Rejoice in Him," again, again,

The Spirit speaks the word,

And faith takes up the happy strain;

Our joy is in the Lord.
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4)
“And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” (Romans 5:11)
3
"Stand fast in Christ"; ah! yet again

He teacheth all the band;

If human efforts are in vain,

In Christ it is we stand.
“Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.” (Philippians 4:1)
“Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.” (Hebrews 2:12)
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26)
“<<A Song of degrees for Solomon.>> Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
“By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:2)
4
"Clean every whit"; Thou saidst it, Lord;

Shall one suspicion lurk?

Thine, surely, is a faithful word,

And Thine a finished work.
“Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.” (John 13:10)
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” (John 17:4)

Forever be the glory given

To Thee, O Lamb of God!

Our every joy on earth, in heaven,

We owe it to Thy blood.
“Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” (Revelation 5:12)
“Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” (Psalm 73:25)
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:6-9)
