We read, " Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints " (
Eph. 6:18
18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6:18)
). The Apostle Jude writes, " But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life " (
Jude 20, 21
20
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (Jude 20‑21)
),
It is very clear from these Scriptures that prayer, true prayer, is in the Spirit. We may well search our hearts as to how far we do really pray. The Holy Spirit is gracious, and ever seeks to help us in our weakness when we approach the throne of grace with our petitions.
" Likewise the Spirit helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercessions for us with groanings which cannot be uttered " (
Rom. 8:26
26
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
).
This is a most wonderful and encouraging Scripture, showing that the Holy Spirit takes note of our weaknesses and infirmities, and renders us due help. What a wonderful partnership, and how strong is the help rendered when it is described as " groanings that cannot be uttered."
