Some of the papers which are here collected appeared in various Magazines and as separate Booklets many years ago. Others are “Notes” of Bible Readings, taken by those who shared them and are passed on by them for use in the present volume. They were much valued by and made the means of blessing to believing readers of a past generation, and the truths presented in them are of abiding value to the people of God of this present time. The dispensational dealings of God among men, the varied actings of His hand in the midst of human sin and misery, the present out-calling from the world of a people for His Son by the Gospel preached among all nations under the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, the heavenly character, position, possessions and hopes of the Church, her union with Christ the glorified Head and her separation from the world, are great and glorious revelations to the saints of this dispensation, which when received as the very Word of God, and allowed to work effectually in the soul, forming the mind and governing the ways of the saints, bring untold blessing into the life, and give strength and character to the testimony for God and Christ among men. It is with the sincere desire that these truths may be more widely known, and their blessing more fully shared, that they are here reproduced, as they flowed from the lips and pen of the Lord's departed servant, to whom grace was given to thus minister them so simply and sweetly.
