We have here much the language of the closing verses of Psalm 40. And it is a suited utterance for the man of many, many sorrows, and might have been oft repeated. It has some connection also with the next Psalm. (See
Psa. 70:2,
2
Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt. (Psalm 70:2)
and
Psa. 71:13
13
Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt. (Psalm 71:13)
.)
We may remember, in connection with
Psalm 70:3,
3
Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha. (Psalm 70:3)
the railing of
Mark 15:29
29
And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, (Mark 15:29)
.
