And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night.
The sun - the greater light - is a picture of Christ. The lesser light - the moon - is a picture of the Church which is composed of all those who are true believers in the Lord Jesus. The moon reflects the sun’s light into the darkness. The Bible states that “men loved darkness rather than light.” This then is the challenge for us: that we who are Christians would reflect some of the Son’s light into this dark, depraved, degenerate world, so that through us they might see something of the beauty of Jesus and be drawn to Him.
