Divine Titles and Their Significance
By:
Algernon James Pollock
As a single word, Savior, only occurs 25 times. Twice it is used in the sense of Preserver. (See
Eph. 5:23
23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. (Ephesians 5:23)
and
1 Tim. 4:10
10
For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (1 Timothy 4:10)
). This can be easily recognized by the context. In all other instances it is used in the full sense of Savior, that is of One, who offered Himself as a sacrifice for sin to God, thus satisfying the claims of Divine holiness, and enabling God righteously to offer salvation to all, who believe on our Lord as Savior.
