Is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4⁴Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (1 John 3:4).

Is of the devil. 1 John 3:8⁸He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8), with John 8:44⁴⁴Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44).

All unrighteousness is. 1 John 5:17¹⁷All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. (1 John 5:17).

Omission of what we know to be good is. James 4:17¹⁷Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (James 4:17).

Whatever is not of faith is. Rom. 14:23²³And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23).

The thought of foolishness is. Prov. 24:9⁹The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men. (Proverbs 24:9).

All the imaginations of the unrenewed heart are. Gen. 6:5⁵And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5). Gen. 8:21²¹And the Lord smelled a sweet savor; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (Genesis 8:21).

DESCRIBED AS

Coming from the heart. Matt. 15:19¹⁹For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (Matthew 15:19).

The fruit of lust. James 1:15¹⁵Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (James 1:15).

The sting of death. 1 Cor. 15:56⁵⁶The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. (1 Corinthians 15:56).

Rebellion against God. Deu. g. Josh. 1:18¹⁸Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage. (Joshua 1:18).

Works of darkness. Eph. 5:11¹¹And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. (Ephesians 5:11).

Dead works. Heb. 6:1¹Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, (Hebrews 6:1). Heb. 9:14¹⁴How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14).

The abominable thing that God hates. Prov. 15:9⁹The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. (Proverbs 15:9). Jer. 44:4, 11⁴Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. (Jeremiah 44:4)
¹¹Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. (Jeremiah 44:11).

Reproaching the Lord. Num. 15:30³⁰But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. (Numbers 15:30). Psa. 74:18¹⁸Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. (Psalm 74:18).

Defiling. Prov. 30:12¹²There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. (Proverbs 30:12). Isa. 59:3³For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. (Isaiah 59:3).

Deceitful. Heb. 3:13¹³But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:13).

Disgraceful. Prov. 14:34³⁴Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34).

Often very great. Ex. 32:30³⁰And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the Lord; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin. (Exodus 32:30). 1 Sam. 2:17¹⁷Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord. (1 Samuel 2:17).

Often mighty. Amos 5:12¹²For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right. (Amos 5:12).

Sometimes open and manifest 1 Tim. 5:24²⁴Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. (1 Timothy 5:24).

Besetting. Heb. 12:1¹Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12:1).

Like scarlet and crimson. Isa. 1:18¹⁸Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Isaiah 1:18).

Reaching unto heaven. Rev. 18:5⁵For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (Revelation 18:5).

Entered into the world by Adam. Gen. 3:6, 7⁶And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. ⁷And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (Genesis 3:6‑7), with Rom. 5:12¹²Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12).

All men are conceived and born in. Gen. 5:3³And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: (Genesis 5:3). Job 15:14¹⁴What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? (Job 15:14). No man is without. 1 Kin. 8:46. Ecc. 7:20.

Christ alone was without. 2 Cor. 5:21²¹For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:21). Heb. 4:15¹⁵For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15). Heb. 7:26²⁶For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; (Hebrews 7:26). 1 John 3:5⁵And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (1 John 3:5).

GOD

Abominates. Deut. 25:16¹⁶For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the Lord thy God. (Deuteronomy 25:16). Prov. 6:16-19¹⁶These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: ¹⁷A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16‑19).

Marks. Job 10:14¹⁴If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity. (Job 10:14).

Remembers. Rev. 18:5⁵For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (Revelation 18:5).

Is provoked to jealousy by. 1 Kin. 14:22.

Is provoked to anger by. 1 Kin. 16:2.

Alone can forgive. Ex. 34:7⁷Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. (Exodus 34:7). Dan. 9:9⁹To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; (Daniel 9:9). Mic. 7:18¹⁸Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. (Micah 7:18). Mar. 2:7.

Recompenses. Jer. 16:18¹⁸And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things. (Jeremiah 16:18). Rev. 18:6⁶Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. (Revelation 18:6).

Punishes. Isa. 13:11¹¹And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. (Isaiah 13:11). Amos 3:2²You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. (Amos 3:2).

THE LAW

Is transgressed by every. James 2:10, 11¹⁰For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. (James 2:10‑11), with 1 John 3:4⁴Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (1 John 3:4).

Gives knowledge of. Rom. 3:20²⁰Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20). Rom. 7:7⁷What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. (Romans 7:7).

Shows exceeding sinfulness of. Rom. 7:13¹³Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. (Romans 7:13).

Made to restrain. 1 Tim. 1:9, 10⁹Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, ¹⁰For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; (1 Timothy 1:9‑10).

By its strictness stirs up. Rom. 7:5, 8, 11⁵For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. (Romans 7:5)
⁸But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. (Romans 7:8)
¹¹For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. (Romans 7:11).

Is the strength of. 1 Cor. 15:56⁵⁶The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. (1 Corinthians 15:56).

Curses those guilty of. Gal. 3:10¹⁰For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (Galatians 3:10).

No man can cleanse himself from. Job 9:30, 31³⁰If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean; ³¹Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me. (Job 9:30‑31). Prov. 20:9⁹Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? (Proverbs 20:9). Jer. 2:22²²For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God. (Jeremiah 2:22).

No an can atone for. Mic. 6:7⁷Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? (Micah 6:7).

God has opened a fountain for. Zech. 13:1¹In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. (Zechariah 13:1).

Christ was manifested to take away. John 1:29²⁹The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29). 1 John 3:5⁵And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (1 John 3:5).

Christ's blood redeems from. Eph. 1:7⁷In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (Ephesians 1:7).

Christ's blood cleanses from. 1 John 1:7⁷But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:7).

SAINTS

Made free from. Rom. 6:18¹⁸Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (Romans 6:18).

Dead to. Rom. 6:2, 11²God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Romans 6:2)
¹¹Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:11). 1 Peter 2:24²⁴Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (1 Peter 2:24).

Profess to have ceased from. 1 Pet. 4:1¹Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (1 Peter 4:1).

Cannot live in. 1 John 3:9⁹Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (1 John 3:9). 1 John 5:18¹⁸We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. (1 John 5:18).

Resolve against. Job 34:32³²That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more. (Job 34:32).

Ashamed of having committed. Rom. 6:21²¹What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. (Romans 6:21).

Abhor themselves on account of. Job 42:6⁶Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. (Job 42:6). Ezek. 20:43⁴³And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed. (Ezekiel 20:43).

Have yet the remains of, in them. Rom. 7:17, 23¹⁷Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. (Romans 7:17)
²³But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. (Romans 7:23), with Gal. 5:17¹⁷For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (Galatians 5:17).

The fear of God restrains Ex. 20:20²⁰And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. (Exodus 20:20). Psa. 4:4⁴Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. (Psalm 4:4). Pro. 16:6⁶By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil. (Proverbs 16:6).

The word of God keeps from. Psa. 17:4⁴Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. (Psalm 17:4). Psa. 119:11¹¹Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11).

The Holy Ghost convinces of. John 16:8, 9⁸And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ⁹Of sin, because they believe not on me; (John 16:8‑9).

If we say that we have no, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8⁸If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8).

If we say that we have no, we make God a liar. 1 John 1:10¹⁰If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:10).

Confusion of face belongs to those guilty of. Dan. 9:7, 8⁷O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. ⁸O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. (Daniel 9:7‑8).

SHOULD BE

Confessed. Job 33:27²⁷He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not; (Job 33:27). Prov. 28:13¹³He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. (Proverbs 28:13).

Mourned over. Psa. 38:18¹⁸For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin. (Psalm 38:18). Jer. 3:21²¹A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the Lord their God. (Jeremiah 3:21).

Hated. Psa. 97:10¹⁰Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 97:10). Prov. 8:13¹³The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:13). Amos 5:15¹⁵Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. (Amos 5:15).

Abhorred. Rom. 12:9⁹Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. (Romans 12:9).

Put away. Job 11:14¹⁴If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles. (Job 11:14).

Departed from. Psa. 34:14¹⁴Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. (Psalm 34:14). 2 Tim. 2:19¹⁹Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (2 Timothy 2:19).

Avoided even in appearance. 1 Thess. 5:22²²Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Guarded against. Psa. 4:4⁴Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. (Psalm 4:4). Psa. 39:1¹<<To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.>> I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. (Psalm 39:1).

Striven against. Heb. 12:4⁴Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. (Hebrews 12:4).

Mortified. Rom. 8:13¹³For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Romans 8:13). Col. 3:5⁵Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: (Colossians 3:5).

Wholly destroyed. Rom. 6:6⁶Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (Romans 6:6).

Specially strive against besetting. Heb. 12.1.

Aggravated by neglected advantages. Luke 12:47⁴⁷And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. (Luke 12:47). John 15:22²²If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. (John 15:22).

Guilt of concealing. Job 31:33³³If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: (Job 31:33). Prov. 28:13¹³He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. (Proverbs 28:13).

WE SHOULD PRAY TO GOD

To search for, in our hearts. Psa. 139:23, 24²³Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: ²⁴And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23‑24).

To make us know our. Job 13:23²³How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin. (Job 13:23).

To forgive our. Ex. 34:9⁹And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. (Exodus 34:9). Luke 11:4⁴And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. (Luke 11:4).

To keep us from. Psa. 19:13¹³Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. (Psalm 19:13).

To deliver us from. Matt. 6:13¹³And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6:13).

To cleanse us from. Psa. 51:2²Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. (Psalm 51:2).

Prayer hindered by. Psa. 66:18¹⁸If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: (Psalm 66:18). Isa. 59:2²But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2).

Blessings withheld on account of. Jer. 5:25²⁵Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you. (Jeremiah 5:25).

THE WICKED

Servants to. John 8:34³⁴Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (John 8:34). Rom. 6:16¹⁶Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16).

Dead in. Eph. 2:1¹And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (Ephesians 2:1).

Guilty of, in everything they do. Prov. 21:4⁴An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. (Proverbs 21:4). Ezek. 21:24²⁴Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand. (Ezekiel 21:24).

Plead necessity for. 1 Sam. 13:11, 12¹¹And Samuel said, What hast thou done? Excuse. Gen. 3:12, 13¹²And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. ¹³And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. (Genesis 3:12‑13). 1 Sam. 15:13-15¹³And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord. ¹⁴And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? ¹⁵And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. Encourage themselves in. Psa. 64:5⁵They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? (Psalm 64:5).

Defy God in committing. Isa. 5:18, 19¹⁸Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: ¹⁹That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it! (Isaiah 5:18‑19).

Boast of. Isa. 3:9⁹The show of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. (Isaiah 3:9).

Make a mock at. Prov. 14:9⁹Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor. (Proverbs 14:9).

Expect impunity in. Psa. 10:11¹¹He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it. (Psalm 10:11). Psa. 50:21²¹These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. (Psalm 50:21). Psa. 94:7⁷Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. (Psalm 94:7).

Cannot cease from. 2 Peter 2:14¹⁴Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: (2 Peter 2:14).

Heap up. Psa. 78:17¹⁷And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. (Psalm 78:17). Isa. 30:1¹Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: (Isaiah 30:1).

Encouraged in, by prosperity. Job 21:7-15⁷Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power? ⁸Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. ¹¹They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹²They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? (Job 21:7‑15). Prov. 10:16¹⁶The labor of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. (Proverbs 10:16).

Led by despair to continue in. Jer. 2:25²⁵Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go. (Jeremiah 2:25). Jer. 18:12¹²And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart. (Jeremiah 18:12).

Try to conceal, from God. Gen. 3:8, 10⁸And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. (Genesis 3:8)
¹⁰And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. (Genesis 3:10), with Job 31:33³³If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: (Job 31:33).

Tempt others to. Gen. 3:6⁶And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Genesis 3:6). 1 Kin. 16:2. 1 Kin. 21:25. Pro. 1:10-14¹⁰My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. ¹¹If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: ¹²Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: (Proverbs 1:10‑14).

Delight in those who commit. Psa. 10:3³For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the Lord abhorreth. (Psalm 10:3). Hos. 7:3³They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. (Hosea 7:3). Rom. 1:32³²Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:32).

Shall bear the shame of. Ezek. 16:52⁵²Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. (Ezekiel 16:52).

Shall find out the wicked. Num. 32:23²³But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out. (Numbers 32:23).

Ministers should warn the wicked to forsake. Ezek. 33:9⁹Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. (Ezekiel 33:9). Dan. 4:27²⁷Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity. (Daniel 4:27).

Death, the wages of. Rom. 6:23²³For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23).

Death, the punishment of. Gen. 2:17¹⁷But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:17). Ezek. 18:4⁴Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. (Ezekiel 18:4).
