The Destructive Raccoon

One spring in my yard we had several birds’ nests. In the front yard we had a black bird’s nest and, in our backyard, we had a crow’s nest. If you know anything at all about black birds and crows, you know they don’t get along. The crows were always looking for food to feed to their babies. The black birds attacked the crows anytime they dared to leave their nest. But all of the birds had one thing in common. They had a plan to care for their baby birds and they would do whatever it took. What we didn’t know was that there was also a raccoon who had a plan.
One day the crows discovered where the black bird’s nest was and they attacked it. They tore at the nest and pulled it out of the tree. I wanted to help the little baby black birds. So, I reached up high and put the nest and babies back in place. But later that day the crows attacked the nest again. I didn’t see the second attack, so the poor little babies died. It was hard to know whose side to take because both families of birds were doing their jobs to care for their babies. They all had a plan.
This is like you and me. We have plans and we do our best but things don’t always work out like we hope. Sometimes problems are too big for us to understand. Sometimes God has a different plan for us. The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all [your] heart; and lean not unto [your] own understanding. In all [your] ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct [your] paths” (Proverbs 3:5-65Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5‑6)).
Remember I told you that there was a raccoon who also had a plan? Well, he had a very destructive plan. That very night the raccoon attacked the crow’s nest while they were sleeping. Now there were no more
baby birds.
Sometimes we can be fooled by Satan’s plans for us, which are always bad, destructive plans, but he is skilled at making them look good at the beginning. Don’t be tricked by Satan into making bad choices. The Bible says Satan is like a thief that comes only to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy,” but that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who came to give us life, and to give us life more abundantly. (See John 10:1010The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10).)
Trust in God and He will show you the right choices to make. God loves you so much, He would never withhold anything good from you. He gave you the most precious gift possible when He gave His Son, the Lord Jesus, to die on the cross for your sins. That was God’s plan for you so you can be in heaven with Him one day! This one wonderful gift is enough to prove that all of God’s plans for you are good.
