The Fall of the Rossberg

Many years ago, among the Alps in Switzerland, there was a huge mountain peak, called the “Rossberg.” At the bottom of the mountain on one side, nearly straight down from the peak, was a little village. Just below this was a blue mountain lake, so common in Switzerland. Some of the people thought part of the mountain might fall someday, so an officer was sent to inspect it. He stayed at the hotel, and every day for a week, with shovel and pick and hammer, he dug and climbed and examined. Finally, he asked for all the villagers to be called together. When they were all there, he said to them, “I am an officer sent here by the government to examine this mountain. I find that the top of it is composed of separate boulders, resting on a foundation of gravel. One of these days it will fall! And the wisest thing you can do is to move away. Goodbye!”
Of course, the people were very upset by his message, and they were afraid to stay in their beautiful mountain village.
Some moved away to another village.
But it did not fall right away, and soon people laughed at their own fears, because the mountain still stood, as it had for many years. Days, weeks, months and years went by, and still it stood. Old men and women died and were buried. New children played in the streets, and all went on as usual. The officer and his message were nearly forgotten.
But one night, 19 years after the warning, with an awful roar, the mountain fell. It buried the village and half choked up the little lake. Very few people escaped alive.
Did you know that you are living in a world which God has said is going to be destroyed? “The heavens and the earth which are now  ... are  ... reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and [punishment] of ungodly men.  ... The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise  ... the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Peter 3:7,107But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (2 Peter 3:7)
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)
).
God knows the exact day that this will happen. “He [has] appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness, by that Man whom He [has] ordained” (Acts 17:3131Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:31)). All of a sudden, it will be here!
Thankfully, God has made a way of escape. There is only one way. The Lord Jesus died on the cross for you, and you must go to Him by faith. If you do, He will keep you safe from that judgment.
