Mr. Allan went to his garage to get his baseball bats. He was on his way to the park to play baseball with a bunch of friends.
“That’s funny,” he said to himself. “Where did I put those bats? They are usually right in this barrel!”
He took several minutes to look around but he could not find his bats. They had disappeared! And he couldn’t think of anywhere he might have left them.
A few weeks later he and his family decided to browse the yard sale down the street for fun to see what interesting things they might find. Was he ever surprised to see what looked like his very own baseball bats! Yes, they were his, all right! So he just gathered them all up and bought his bats back! Now, Mr. Allan was a policeman, but he decided not to say anything to the man running the yard sale, who was probably the thief, but to buy the bats as though he knew nothing about their being stolen.
When Mr. Allan bought his baseball bats back, he “redeemed” them. “Redeem” means “to buy back.”
Children, did you know that we all need to be redeemed? Satan “stole” all humans from God when he got our first father, Adam, to sin in the Garden of Eden. Adam then had a sinful nature, and that sinful nature got passed down to every one of us. First Peter 1:18-19 says, “Forasmuch as [you] know that [you] were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold ... but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” This tells us that God has bought us back for Himself through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. God is not a policeman, but He is the God of the universe who knows your every thought and yet still loves you and longs to buy you back from Satan for Himself. Won’t you come to Him today?
