I asked a little darling child,
“Which is the sweetest name?”
And from her lips without a pause,
The accents “Jesus” came.
“And do you know,” continued I,
“One who that name doth own?”
“I do, I do!” she sweetly said,
“He sits on heaven’s bright throne.”
“And why does He, my precious child
The name of Jesus bear?”
A smile at once lit up her face,
So pleasing and so fair:
“He bears that name,” her answer was
“Because He shed His blood
To save the wretched and the lost,
And bring them nigh to God.”
