The Trail of Sugar

“Ma’am, Ma’am!” There was urgency in the voice that Mrs. Beckett was hearing.
It was Mrs. Beckett’s grocery shopping day. She was at her favorite grocery store, going up and down the aisles getting everything on her list. The aisle with sugar and flour had been one stop. She had been thankful to be able to just pick up the bag of sugar and set it down in the seat where you could place a child. Since her children were all grown up, she could set the sack of sugar there, where it was easier to put a heavier item. Mrs. Beckett had continued up and down a few more aisles. Now she was at the deli. She had just put a rotisserie chicken in her cart when she heard that voice and saw an employee come running towards her looking rather distraught.
“Oh ma’am! Your sugar!” Mrs. Beckett had a questioning look on her face as she looked down at her sack of sugar and wondered what the trouble was. Oh my! Her sack of sugar was emptying out into a little white mountain right under the cart! Apparently, when she had picked up the sack of sugar and placed it in that convenient seat, a piece of metal on the cart had caught the paper bag and torn a little hole in it. Mrs. Beckett didn’t know it, but there was a clear trail of sugar that had followed her wherever she had gone! Up one aisle and down the next all the way to the deli! With embarrassment she gave her torn sack of sugar to the helpful employee, retraced her steps and got a new sack of sugar. This time she was very careful about how she placed that sugar in her cart! Another lady in the sugar aisle laughed about how someone had made a trail of sugar all over the store. Mrs. Beckett just smiled and hoped her face wasn’t too red as she made her way to the register to pay for her purchases.
Children, the most important decision you will ever make in your life is to receive the Lord Jesus as your Savior. But Mrs. Beckett’s embarrassing experience reminds me of something else that is found in a verse in the last book of the Bible called Revelation. The book of Revelation talks about the end of this earth and what will happen on earth and in heaven after the Lord Jesus calls His people up to be with Him forever. Revelation 14:1313And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them. (Revelation 14:13) mentions something very important that will be true after we die. “Their works do follow them.” This means that after we are in heaven, what we did for the Lord Jesus when we were on earth will still be remembered.
Right now, if all the things you have ever done were made into a trail that all could see, would you be embarrassed, like Mrs. Beckett was about her trail of sugar? Or would you be happy that you tried to please the Lord Jesus during your life, no matter how young or old you are? It’s something worth thinking about, isn’t it?
Memory verse: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:1313And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them. (Revelation 14:13)
