The Way to the City.

“THE labor of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.” (Ecclesiastes 10:1515The labor of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city. (Ecclesiastes 10:15).)
It is written (Proverbs 1:77The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)), “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;” and we may safely affirm, that he who is actuated thereby will find in Christ all that his conscience or his heart can crave after. HE is the “city of refuge,” where the soul finds not only shelter from the avenger of blood, but a settled and abiding habitation of security, sustenance, and rest. “Fools despise wisdom and instruction,” seeking for these things elsewhere; but their labor can only weary and disappoint.
