262. To Wait for That Important Day

8,8,6, bis.
by T. Kelly
1
To wait for that important day,

When Christ His glorious power’ll display,

Be this our one great care:

To do His will, our business here;

No toil to shun, no danger fear;

Resolved our cross to bear.
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” (Philippians 3:13)
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
2
And though He should prolong His stay,

And sinners mock at the delay,

His people need not fear;

The Man who wore the crown of thorns,

Whose claim the world rejects and scorns,

In glory will appear.
“And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (2 Peter 3:4)
“Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
“And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe.” (John 19:2)
“When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:4)
3
In patience, then, we now may rest

(Assured the Father’s time is best),

And all His Word obey:

We wait till that blest day shall come

When Jesus will convey us home,

And all His power display.
“But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” (Romans 8:25)
“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” (Revelation 3:8)
“Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” (Revelation 3:10)
“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
