Vestment; It was and still is customary for every Jew, on entering the synagogue for religious worship, to put on the Tallith or scarf of white lamb’s wool with blue stripes and fringes at each end. It marked the worshipper as being a true Israelite. It was perhaps some similar vestment which Jehu ordered “him that was over the vestry” to supply to each worshipper of Baal (2 Kings 10:2222And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments. (2 Kings 10:22)), the acceptance of which was the profession of being a true Baalite.
Vex; to harass, torment.

(Revelation 14:18).
typical of Christ. John 15.
Vinegar; The Hebrew term Hômêts was applied to a beverage consisting usually of wine or strong drink turned sour. By itself it formed a nauseous draught (Psa. 69:2121They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. (Psalm 69:21)), and its acid taste passed into a proverb (Prov. 10:2626As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him. (Proverbs 10:26)). It was drunk by laborers (Ruth 2:1414And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left. (Ruth 2:14)). Similar to the Hômêts of the Hebrews was the acetum of the Romans, which, under the name of posca, was the ordinary drink of the Roman soldiers (Matt. 27:4848And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. (Matthew 27:48); Mark 15:3636And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. (Mark 15:36); John 19:29-3029Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. (John 19:29‑30)).

laws of. Ex. 22:5; 23:115If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution. (Exodus 22:5)
11But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard. (Exodus 23:11)
; Lev. 19:10; 25:310And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:10)
3Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; (Leviticus 25:3)
; Deut. 20:6; 22:9; 23:24; 24:216And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it. (Deuteronomy 20:6)
9Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled. (Deuteronomy 22:9)
24When thou comest into thy neighbor's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. (Deuteronomy 23:24)
21When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. (Deuteronomy 24:21)

Vocal music; occupies an important place in Scripture, both in religious worship (1 Chron. 6:3232And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order. (1 Chronicles 6:32)), public rejoicings (1 Sam. 19:22But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself: (1 Samuel 19:2).6), and social festivities (Gen. 31:2727Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp? (Genesis 31:27); Isa. 5:1; 24:91Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: (Isaiah 5:1)
9They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. (Isaiah 24:9)
). It is mentioned among the earliest expressions of joy (Ex. 15:2121And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. (Exodus 15:21)), and was accompanied by dancing (2 Sam. 6:1616And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. (2 Samuel 6:16)), and cispping of hands, especially in the “chorus” (Psa. 47:11<<To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.>> O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. (Psalm 47:1)). For worship David chose a body of singers (1 Chron. 16:4141And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the Lord, because his mercy endureth for ever; (1 Chronicles 16:41)); Jehoshaphat appointed a band of singers to praise God in front of his army (2 Chron. 20:2121And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever. (2 Chronicles 20:21)). After the captivity we find an equal number of male and female voices (Ezra 2:6565Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women. (Ezra 2:65)), who sang alternately. They formed a distinguished cisss, had a separate maintenance (Neh. 11:2323For it was the king's commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day. (Nehemiah 11:23)), had cities assigned to them (Neh. 7:7373So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities. (Nehemiah 7:73)), and chambers for those in attendance at the temple (Ezek. 40:4444And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north. (Ezekiel 40:44)). From the dedication of some Psalms there would seem to have been a written musical notation, but no certain record of it is extant.
Vows, laws concerning. Lev. 27; Num. 6:22Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord: (Numbers 6:2); Num. 30:22If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. (Numbers 30:2); Deut. 23:2121When thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the Lord thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. (Deuteronomy 23:21). See Psa. 65:1; 66:13; 76:11; 116:181<<To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David.>> Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed. (Psalm 65:1)
13I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows, (Psalm 66:13)
11Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. (Psalm 76:11)
18I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people, (Psalm 116:18)
; Eccl. 5:44When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. (Ecclesiastes 5:4); Mal. 1:1414But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen. (Malachi 1:14).
