Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:
(tearer). A large falconoid bird, with naked head and neck, feeding mostly on carrion. The bird is pronounced unclean (Lev. 11:1414And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; (Leviticus 11:14); Deut. 14:1313And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind, (Deuteronomy 14:13)); but the original implies the kite, as also in Isaiah 34:1515There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate. (Isaiah 34:15).
